Condition grades

Condition grades

Every mixer we sell is graded on a four-step scale — A, A-, B+, B. The grade lives on the product page next to the price and is clickable on mobile for a quick recap. Every mixer, regardless of grade, passes the same 48-hour bake-in test and ships with the same 14-day returns under UK Consumer Rights.

This page is also the content of the grading modal on the product page.

Grade A — Near-new

Looks new on a shelf. Under good light and close inspection you might spot one or two faint marks, but nothing a new mixer would not have after a careful first month of use.

  • Motor housing: no chips, no scratches visible at arm's length.
  • Bowl: polished, no dents, no heavy scuffing.
  • Base plate: clean, rubber feet intact.
  • Attachments: full set included, clean, no pitting.
  • Mechanical: fully serviced, re-greased, PAT tested.

Typical source: Lightly used private sellers who bought, tried, and moved on.

Grade A- — Lightly used

Clear honest signs of a kitchen life, but no damage. You would not mistake it for new up close. You would not spot it across the worktop.

  • Motor housing: very light marks around the tilt pivot or the speed dial.
  • Bowl: fine swirl marks from regular use, no dents.
  • Base plate: clean.
  • Attachments: full set included, cleaned and tested.
  • Mechanical: fully serviced, re-greased, PAT tested.

Typical source: Well-kept home kitchens where the mixer has been used weekly for a few years.

Grade B+ — Honest kitchen wear

Works like any other mixer we sell. Looks like a well-used mixer. The refurbishment report on the product page names every specific mark.

  • Motor housing: visible scratches or small chips, usually around the hinge or the base lip.
  • Bowl: light scratches from regular use. Still polished, still watertight.
  • Base plate: may have minor marks.
  • Attachments: full set included, with cosmetic wear consistent with the mixer.
  • Mechanical: fully serviced, re-greased, PAT tested. Any replaced part is noted on the product page.

Typical source: Family kitchens that have baked weekly for a decade or longer.

Grade B — Cosmetic seconds

The mixer works, the guarantee is the same, and the price reflects the look. Grade B mixers have visible cosmetic flaws — deeper scratches, a dent in the housing, fading on a colour finish — that we will not pretend are not there. Every flaw is photographed and described on the product page.

  • Motor housing: obvious visible wear, possibly including dents, deep scratches, or faded paint.
  • Bowl: heavier scratching, still watertight, still polished.
  • Base plate: noticeable wear.
  • Attachments: full set included.
  • Mechanical: fully serviced, re-greased, PAT tested. The mechanical health is identical to a Grade A mixer.

Typical source: Older commercial-adjacent use, or well-loved home units.
