What 14-day returns and UK Consumer Rights actually cover

The legal stuff matters when you are spending three hundred quid on a tool you intend to use for years. Here is what you actually get when you buy from Batch 17 — in plain English.

Your statutory rights under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015

If you buy from a UK retailer, you have rights that nobody can sign you out of. The big ones:

  • 30-day right to reject. If the goods are not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, or as described, you can return them in the first 30 days and get a full refund. No exceptions.
  • Right to repair or replacement. Up to six months from purchase, the burden of proof is on us to show the fault was not there at delivery. After six months, the burden of proof shifts to you — but the right does not vanish.
  • Right to a price reduction or final refund. If a repair or replacement is not possible or has failed.

This is true whether you buy from us, John Lewis, or Currys. It is the floor.

Our 14-day return window — on top of the above

Separate from the statutory floor, we offer a 14-day "change of mind" return window from the day the mixer arrives. You do not need a reason. We book the collection, we pay for it, and we refund you within three working days of the mixer being back on our bench.

"Why 14 days and not 30?" Because we are a small workshop, and a mixer in transit is a mixer not earning. 14 days is enough to plug it in, run the bowl through three sessions, and decide. It is also the standard for distance-selling under UK consumer law for change-of-mind returns. We are not trying to be clever about it.

What we don't do

  • We do not offer extended manufacturer-style warranties. KitchenAid offer those on new direct purchases. We sell refurbished, so we don't.
  • We don't do the "no-quibble lifetime guarantee" thing. It is marketing, not a real product.
  • We don't sell additional protection plans. If you would like cover beyond your statutory rights, your home insurance is the right place to look.

What we do

  • We document the condition of every mixer on the product page so the goods are as described under the Act. If we tell you a mixer has a dent on the back of the column and you receive it, the dent is exactly where we said. That is the contract.
  • We answer every email about a mixer the same working day. If something fails after the 14-day window but you are still inside your statutory cover period, hit reply on your order email and tell us what happened. We will sort it.
  • We keep the build log of every mixer. If you have a question two years from now about which gear we replaced on serial number XYZ, the log is on our shelf.

If you have a specific question about a specific mixer's condition before you buy, ask. We are here.
